2023 Marvin Hamlisch
International Music Awards
Musical Theatre Composition

How It Works

We’ll provide you with a scenario, and you get inspired! You’ll submit an audio demo file of 3-6 minutes with your music and lyrics and tell us how you were inspired.

Our judges will evaluate all pieces and select five nominees each in our Musical Theatre Composition: Emerging and Musical Theatre Composition: Youth divisions. A distinguished jury will select the winners, who will be announced during a virtual worldwide ceremony on November 13, 2023. The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards are presented in partnership with Queens College and the Kupferberg Center for the Arts.

The winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000 US (Emerging division) or $750 US (Youth division) AND your piece may be published by our sponsor Concord — an industry leader in music publishing.

Judging Process and Criteria

All submissions will be evaluated by a team of judges. The judging process is anonymous, with each submission assigned a code to ensure a fair and unbiased evaluation process. Judges will provide feedback on each submission’s strengths and weaknesses and evaluate it based on the criteria listed below. Feedback may be requested upon the completion of the 2023 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards.

Based upon scores and recommendations, a top 25 in each division will be identified and a panel of Hamlisch Awards Board and invited judges will select up to five nominees each in the Youth and Emerging division of each category. Nominees will be announced on October 17, 2023.

A Distinguished Jury will anonymously evaluate the nominees and select the award recipients in each category. Award recipients will be announced at a virtual worldwide ceremony on November 13, 2023.

Special honors or merit prizes may be bestowed by the jury or board panel for achievement, diversity, or other distinctions worthy of recognition.
