About Us
The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards discover and champion youth and emerging composers from around the world. The awards were created to honor the late Marvin Hamlisch, paying tribute to his remarkable legacy as both an artist and an advocate for emerging talent.
The awards first began as the Marvin Hamlisch Film Scoring Contest, presented by the Washington, DC-based nonprofit CINE since 2013. Hundreds of composers worldwide competed annually in this unique contest for emerging media composers. In 2019, the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards will launch to continue and expand the contest’s impact, adding three additional categories in which Mr. Hamlisch’s music was so influential. Emerging composers will be able to apply for the following categories: composition for musical theatre, film scoring, classical music and jazz music. The awards will be presented annually in New York City at the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards ceremony.
Composers from around the world are eligible and encouraged to compete, with registration opening in late 2019. To receive email updates, please join our email list at the subscribe form below, or email hello@hamlischawards.org.
