2026-2027 Marvin Hamlisch
International Music Awards
Arranging and Orchestration

How It Works

We’ll provide you with a piece by our namesake Marvin Hamlisch, and you get inspired! Arrange the piece in any style or genre that you’d like. Submit a demo and sheet music by the submission deadline, and our judges will evaluate all scores and select five nominees each in our Emerging and Youth divisions. A distinguished jury will select the winners, who will be announced at the 2026-2027 Marvin Hamlisch Awards at the Avon Film Center in 2027.

The winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000 US (Emerging division) or $750 US (Youth division) AND your piece may be published by our sponsor Concord — an industry leader in music publishing. All nominees will be invited to participate in an exclusive day of professional development in New York City, held in conjunction with the awards presentation. This unique experience will bring nominees together with leading music industry executives for discussions, mentorship opportunities, career guidance, and networking.

Eligibility

Any youth or emerging composer, arranger, or songwriter is eligible to compete. “Emerging” is defined as one who does not yet make a full-time living through composing, arranging, or songwriting; those working in music in other capacities (performing, teaching) are eligible to compete. Composers, arrangers, and songwriters from all countries and territories are invited to participate.

Entrants may register to participate in teams of no more than two (2). If participating as a team, both entrants must be eligible to compete under the guidelines.

Entrants may register for and compete in more than one category, but a separate registration form and fee must be submitted  for each category.

Please note that all compositions or arrangements must be original and created for submission to the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards. While entrants may use licensed electronic instruments or sound effects, they are strictly prohibited from using pre-written/recorded music or generative AI in the composition and/or production of awards submissions. The detection of AI usage in any submission is grounds for disqualification.

ELIGIBILITY: YOUTH DIVISION

Entrants under eighteen (18) years of age at the time of the registration deadline, March 31, 2027, must compete in the Youth divisions of their respective categories.

ELIGIBILITY: EMERGING DIVISION

Undergraduate or graduate students in a music/composition (or unrelated) program are eligible to compete, but must complete compositions without the assistance of an advisor or professor.

Those who work in the music industry but are not professional composers (for example, performers or music teachers) are eligible to compete.

Youth Division (All Categories): $50 (US)

Emerging Division (All Categories): $75 (US)

Judging Process and Criteria

All submissions will be evaluated by a team of judges. The judging process is anonymous, with each submission assigned a code to ensure an unbiased evaluation process. Judges will provide feedback on each submission’s strengths and weaknesses, evaluate it based on the criteria listed below, and decide whether to recommend the piece for further consideration. Feedback may be requested upon the completion of the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards.

Based upon scores, recommendations, and the evaluation of a semi-final panel comprised of Hamlisch Awards Board and invited judges, up to five nominees will be selected in the Youth and Emerging division of each category. Nominees will be announced on July 15, 2027.

A Distinguished Jury will anonymously evaluate the nominees and select the award recipients in each category. Award recipients will be announced at the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards held at the Avon Film Center in the fall of 2027.

Special honors or citations may be bestowed by the jury or board panel for distinctions worthy of recognition.
